Terri knew that I wasn’t being lazy. She taught me the skills I needed to become successful in my daily tasks.
When I first started working with Terri, I was in the 9th grade and for lack of a better word, a mess. I struggled with basic skills such as keeping track of my cell phone and wallet. My papers from school were in complete disarray at the bottom of my backpack, making it hard to find my homework, much less complete it. My time management skills were severely lacking, and getting all of my work done while balancing extra-curricular activities and a social life was daunting if not nearly impossible. Given all of these issues among others, I was getting average or below average grades, and my parents and I knew I was not living up to my potential. I was really frustrated and began to lose confidence in my intellect and capabilities.
Terri was really able to help me turn everything around. She understood my struggles and knew I wasn’t just being lazy or not trying my best. She never judged me and I always felt entirely comfortable talking to her about whatever it is I was going through. She was very reliable and I always felt like she was on my side.
Through our weekly sessions, I learned how to plan out my weeks into chunks of time and keep to-do lists and an up to date planner. I learned to put my cell phone and wallet back in the same place every time. I learned how to organize my notes and papers in a way that worked for me. Of course, I didn’t learn these skills overnight, but over time, Terri made real changed the way I operated. My grades improved dramatically, and I gained confidence in my abilities. Ultimately, I was able to get into a top-tier university and have thrived there academically, and have been able to manage my busy college schedule to include extra-curricular activities and a social life. I have even applied the skills I learned with Terri in professional settings as I have gone on to complete internships. I truly do attribute much my success to Terri and the skills I learned with her. Organizational skills will never be my biggest strength, but thanks to her, I am now equipped with the critical foundational skills that allow me to be highly functioning and successful.
